A new social deduction game!
10 months ago – Sun, Jun 04, 2023 at 11:11:59 AM

Hey!

Just a short update to let you know: Jellybean Games has a new social deduction game on Kickstarter!

It’s called SlackJack and it’s basically social deduction blackjack; you play as pirates, trying to match up and get as close to 21 as you can without going over.

Like Dracula’s Feast, it’s every man for himself, everyone gets unique hidden roles, and it plays in less than ten minutes.  In the advanced version, everyone has a special ability, and you’re trying to match up with powers that help you and avoid the dastardly Slack Jack, or anyone else trying to work against you.

There are’s only 9 days remaining on the campaign, and the base version is only $9! If you like Dracula’s Feast, it’s definitely worth checking out:

The Dracula's Feast Upgrade Pack is now available!
almost 4 years ago – Mon, May 11, 2020 at 10:31:45 PM

Hey!

I just wanted to pop in and let you know two small things:

The Night of the Mummy campaign has wrapped up!

The second game in the Masquerade series, Night of the Mummy, has finished its campaign and I'm so crazy-happy with how it went! It finished with a total of 944 backers, $34,455 raised, and like 4 promos unlocked!!

If you missed the campaign, there's still time to grab a copy of Night of the Mummy! Late pledges are available, and anything pledged in the next WEEK will help us unlock a final promo card: Wadjit!

The Dracula's Feast Upgrade Pack is available!

If you want to add Night of the Mummy to your game shelf, but don't have Dracula's Feast: New Blood, we have an upgrade pack available!

The Dracula's Feast Upgrade Pack is available as an add on for Night of the Mummy. It makes the original Dracula's Feast compatible with NotM and all future games in the Masquerade series

(The upgrade pack is NOT required for Dracula's Feast: New Blood.)

That's all for today! I hope everyone is staying safe and staying sane ❤️

Thanks so much for your support,

Mummy of the Night

Night of the Mummy is about to enter its FINAL 48 HOURS!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Apr 15, 2020 at 08:16:44 PM

Hey!

The second game in the Masquerade series, Night of the Mummy, is about to enter its FINAL 48 HOURS!

That's right - there are a mere 48 hours left to help us unlock the final stretch goals. We already unlocked a rad Dodo promo card, and we're less than $800 away from unlocking our next one.

Upgrade Pack

There's been a bit of confusion about what exactly comes in the upgrade pack, so I wanted to break it down:

The upgrade pack will contain replacement guest and reference cards for the version of Dracula’s Feast we funded through this campaign, almost 4 years ago. These will allow you to keep using Tania's gorgeous art, but will update the card backs (so that the game is compatible with Night of the Mummy and any future games in the Masquerade line), as well as updating the guest abilities so that they match the development work done prior to Dracula’s Feast: New Blood.

They will NOT update Cthulhu & Friends because

a) I haven't done any development work on Cthulhu & Friends, so I don't want to reprint it without playtesting changes, and

b) Because the characters in Cthulhu & Friends can be played face-up, there's no need for newly printed cards.

If we ever do a second edition of Cthulhu & Friends, we'll definitely offer an upgrade pack and I'll definitely let you know about it.

You can add a copy of the Dracula’s Feast Upgrade Pack to your pledge for just $9!

With a big enough push over the next 48 hours, we can unlock the rest of the promo cards and make Night of the Mummy the best game it can be!

Check it out!

Night of the Mummy is LIVE!
about 4 years ago – Tue, Mar 17, 2020 at 10:05:40 PM

Hey!

As of just a few minutes ago, Night of the Mummy is LIVE!

This is a game that I've been working on for almost a decade (it originated at the same time as Dracula’s Feast, and has been steadily developed ever since) and I'm so excited to bring it to life!

The campaign also offers an upgrade pack - just add $9 to your pledge, and you'll also get a set of cards that update Dracula’s Feast to the new version, making it fully compatible with Night of the Mummy!

If you'd rather just get a full copy of Dracula’s Feast: New Blood, get in fast! We only have 200 copies, and   they're already being snapped up.

While I'm here, how can I resist showing off some of the new cards?

The Sarcophagus is like The Trickster, but even tricksier! It whispers Yes to all inquiries, AND hides its face when dancing.

Hiding is a new mechanism in Night of the Mummy - now when players dance, everyone else closes their eyes, and the players in the dance hold up their cards. Guests who hide their face will instead hold up the back of their card.

One of the coolest things about Night of the Mummy is that it can be combined with the original game, which means you can now include both The Trickster AND The Sarcophagus in a single play! The possibilities are endless...

Speaking of hiding, it allows for all kinds of cool cards, like the Gargoyle!

After everyone shuts their eyes, the Gargoyle can open its eyes, hold up its card, and join in! That's right - any dance can now have our stony friend included in it.

It's a very fun experience to start dancing with someone and suddenly find a third party involved in your tango. :D

One more!

The Phantom of the Museum is one of the more advanced roles - she (like the Sarcophagus) hides her face while dancing.

But that doesn't stop her from being very sensitive. If you misidentify her during an inquiry ("Are you the Gargoyle?"), she takes it extremely personally, and has the option to make a one-person accusation against whoever made the inquiry.

If she's right, she wins immediately!

That's all for now! Here's that link for the Kickstarter again - I really hope you click through and check out the page (I'm particularly proud of the video!) and consider adding this game to your rad game collection. :D

Thanks so much for your support,

-Peter C. Hayward

Night of the Mummy is coming soon!
about 4 years ago – Thu, Feb 27, 2020 at 07:21:18 PM

Hey!

I’m writing to let you know about a campaign that I'm launching in just a few weeks for Night of the Mummy, the standalone sequel to Dracula’s Feast.

As you’ll remember from the original campaign (way back in 2016! Half a lifetime ago) the game was always intended to be part of a series, and I’m so excited to get the next game in the series out into the world! :D

It adds a new twist to the Dance action - instead of handing your card to the other player, you’ll hold it up! Everyone else closes their eyes, and the players in the dance get to look at each other's cards. The twist? Some guests hide, and hold up the back of their card instead of the front!

(This is the reason the card backs - right from the first edition - were masks! I always knew this mechanism was coming, and so we’ve been ready for it for literally years.)

The new game is going to be in the art-style of Dracula’s Feast: New Blood, which I know will disappoint some of you*. BUT, good news - we’re going to be offering an upgrade pack!

*Tania’s hand-inked style, while gorgeous, simply wasn’t sustainable for an ongoing series! She picked Michael Dashow to replace her, and I absolutely love his take on the characters.

Compatibility Upgrade Pack

If you grab Night of the Mummy through the Kickstarter, for an extra $9 you’ll be able to add a compatibility upgrade pack, making your first edition copy of Dracula’s Feast completely able to integrate with Night of the Mummy and all future Masquerade games!

The upgrade pack will be a set of guest cards with new backs, updating all the player powers to the second edition, while keeping the old art you know and love! A lot of people have been asking for this, so I’m excited that we were able to get it together for you.

New characters, completely compatible with Dracula’s Feast!

The new game can be played standalone, BUT - bonus! - can also be intermixed with Dracula’s Feast: New Blood (or the original with the compatibility upgrade pack).

This means that both (already very replayable games) near-infinite replayability.

Here are a random handful of the new characters!

Let’s start with the titular Mummy! Like Dracula, she’s in every game…but unlike Dracula, she’s very difficult to find. Not only does she hide during dances, she also whispers “No” to every inquiry!

Her ability to hide is vital, because constantly seeking The Mummy is…

One of the big character changes from the first edition of Dracula’s Feast was Van Helsing - in her original form, she was widely considered to be overpowered, and so her ability was updated for New Blood.

The Archeologist is based on the original Van Helsing, but since her target is so hard to find (and she has to accept all dances - without the ability to hide!), she’s much more balanced!

(While still being a total badass. The Archeologist is a lot of fun to play, with or against.)

The Sasquatch is unlike anything seen in a Masquerade game before! As we all know, yetis and bigfoots are blurry from a distance, so Sasquatch hides his face…unless he’s dancing with one of his neighbors.

If he ever shows his face, he may look at one of the Mystery Guests. A huge boon!

This kind of cool ability is only possible thanks to the hiding mechanism, which allows players to take all kinds of actions while the other players have their eyes closed. In Dracula’s Feast, using your special ability almost always required you to reveal...in Night of the Mummy, characters can be special abilitying while still hiding!

Okay, one more!

Much like the Sasquatch, the Statue of Anubis can take actions during a dance - without anyone (except his dance partners) knowing who he is!

Unlike the Sasquatch, however, the Statue of Anubis’s power is voluntary - he can choose to show himself during any dance. This is a powerful choice, so the advantage is a little weaker - he also gets to see a Mystery Guest, but he shows it to everyone he’s dancing with.

As you can see, there’s some really cool stuff happening in this set, so I hope you’ll all join me on the 17th of March when we launch! Brand new characters, an upgrade pack for the first edition, and a sequel slash expansion slash whole lot of fun.

That’s all for now! I’ll be back around launch day, to share a link that’ll take you straight to the campaign.

Thanks so much for your support,

-Peter C. Hayward
